In my opinion, most people use affirmations totally incorrect. Most people just repeat them without really connecting with them through their emotions. When you don’t connect with them in this way, you really are missing the power that they can convey.

Affirmations are simply creation statements. You use them to achieve goals and change negative beliefs. They need to be written or said in the positive, in the present tense and created so that you feel comfortable in your body, on some level with the affirmation. With affirmations you are trying to create new, more empowering belief systems.

For example if you want to lose weight this might be an affirmation you could try.

I lose weight easily and I keep the weight off now and in the future.

Notice, I did not say I WILL lose weight. That is a future tense and the subconscious mind just recognizes the present. This present creates your future, so by keeping affirmations in the present, you keep creating the future based on your affirmation.

Make the affirmation believable for your present situation. If I said, I now lose 100 pounds, you know it is not possible and this affirmation will not work. The affirmation, I lose 100 pounds healthfully and steadily over the next year. This is doable and believable.

Two major reasons we do not get what we want is that on some level we are fearful about the goal or feel unworthy to have it. Most of the time you are not conscious of your fear or feelings of being not good enough or unworthy. Those beliefs are usually in the unconscious mind, hidden from your awareness.

So two great ways to start any affirmation is with, I am safe or I am worthy. You can combine the two, I am safe and worthy to… This way you don’t have to know if you are fearful or feeling unworthy and you have covered your bases with starting your affirmation in this way.

Create your affirmations based on your negative beliefs!

This may sound strange, but think about it, your negative beliefs or self-talk is really your roadmap to direct you to create empowering beliefs! If you constantly say to yourself, I am not good enough, then the place to start with your affirmations is focusing on feeling and accepting your confidence and self-esteem.

The affirmation could be something like; I am feeling safer, safer to feel my worth regardless of my accomplishments. Or, I see myself more confident in my daily life.

Notice in those affirmations I used feeling words for one and visual words for the second. People learn in different major ways. Most people are visual, so if you are visual, use visual words for your affirmations, like see, imagine, and visualize. If you feel more in your body, use words like I feel and sense. If you don’t know experiment with both and find the format that is the most comfortable.

And finally, writing your affirmations will speed up you reaching your goals. Write your affirmations each day for the best results!
